A Healthier You - Firework Safety

4th of July is just around the corner! We have lots of fireworks, BBQs, fresh watermelons, and fun in the sun to look forward to.

Last week I sent out sunscreen info so this week I thought a little fireworks safety would be a great idea.

The two tips combined can keep your skin burn free and possibly save an eye 😉.

Firework Safety Tips:

  • An ADULT should always supervise firework activities -including sparklers.
  • Never point or throw fireworks at another person.
  • Never light fireworks while holding them in your hand (Yes, this includes Roman Candles).
  • Never lean over fireworks while lighting.
  • Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioned fireworks.
  • Keep a buck of water or water hose nearby to extinguish fireworks that don’t go off or in case of fire.
  • Make sure that the fireworks are not being lit or sent into a dry area that could ignite a fire.

Also don’t forget to support Addison’s 4th of July Festival and our own Julie Nix!

A Healthier You - Sunscreen

With these rainy days I’m sure sunscreen is the last thing on your mind but we are officially one week into summer!

I thought some tips on sunblock use would be great for us:

  • When: Sunscreen should be used year around -Not just in the summer.

  • What SPF: The American Academy of Dermatology recommends SPF 30 or higher.

  • What Type: Choose a broad spectrum that will protect from both UVA and UVB rays.

  • When to Reapply: This varies based on what you’re doing. If you’re inside most of the day and not sweating or swimming you can apply one time in the morning. If you are active outdoors go with a water resistant formula and reapply every 40 to 80 minutes.

  • How Long Does A Bottle of Sunscreen last: Some bottles have an expiration date you can check but if not the FDA requires sunblock to maintain its original strength in the bottle for 3 years.

Have a great summer!! 😊

Thank you,

Pocono Proud

C2 Freight was proud to sponsor Ryan Sieg Racing at the Pocono Green 250 Race on June 1st at Pocono Raceway.

Our very own shipper coordinator, Kyle Carden (right), and our Operations Manager, Michael Boggs (left) along with wife Christi were able to attend the race and cheer on the speedy C2 Camaro.

Ryan, staying in the top 10 for the majority of the race, had a tire go down under green, and lost multiple laps to the leaders toward the end. Ryan finished up P26, but it was still a great weekend at "The Tricky Triangle".

We also sponsored the Talladega race earlier this year, and will be sponsoring the U.S. Cellular 250 at the Iowa Speedway later in the race season.

June 2019 C2 Employee Spotlight

June 2019 Employee Spotlight

This month the employee spotlight is on Wenona Mertens. She has been with us for 2 years this October and makes a great addition to the C2 family.

Wenona is married to Daniel “Boogie” Mertens who is an RN at Cullman Regional. Between them they have 6 kids (Destiny, Tori, Hannah, Eli, Trinity, and Maddi) and 4 grandchildren (Lillianna, Layla, Jack, and Lance).

We consider Wenona our fitness guru around the office as she enjoys hiking with her family, fishing, kayaking, running, yoga, and of course spoiling her precious grand kids. She and Daniel recently competed in a "Stoney Lonesome Mud Run" to raise money for the local mud track park. She is a pleasure to work with and we look forward to what the future holds for her here at C2 Freight.
