A Healthier You - Stay Safe Shopping

Normally we cover some kind of health tip this time each week but with holiday shopping season coming up I thought this would be the best time to cover ways to stay safe as you bounce from store to store. Each year we hear the stories of people getting mugged, attacked, or even worse as they do their gift shopping.

There are some steps you can take to keep yourself from being a soft-target for the bad guys:

  • Try to shop during the day but if you must shop at night don’t shop alone.
  • Avoid wearing expensive jewelry as this makes you a target.
  • Keep cash in your front pocket or don’t carry cash at all. Opt for check or credit cards instead.
  • Avoid overloading yourself with packages. This impairs your vision and motion if you need to fight or run.
  • Stay aware of your surroundings especially when walking back to and loading packages into your car.
  • With all the large crowds and confusion in stores it’s safest to leave small children with a sitter while you’re shopping.

A bit of vigilance on your part can help you stay off a criminal’s radar and sailing through all your holiday shopping. Stay safe everyone!
